Acting Ombudsperson demands from the Assembly of Kosova to conserve the National Park of Sharri.
Mass destructions followed by illegal constructions, functioning of quarries, illegal disforestation, are the things which are gradually destroying the National Park of Sharri.
These things which have been lately marked by the Ombudsperson Institution made the Acting Ombudsperson Mr. Hilmi Jashari address to the President of the Assembly of Kosova Mr. Jakup Krasniqi with a letter demanding from the Assembly of Kosova to direct the Government of Kosovo to undertake immediate measures in order to discontinue the above-mentioned activities.
Mr. Jashari, in his letter addressed to Mr. Krasniqi has also demanded to establish a special committee, which in cooperation with other relevant institutions, would make an overall assessment about the situation created at the National Park in order that following its completion it can report to the Assembly of Kosovo regarding the irregularities and necessary measures to restore the park to its previous state.
Illegal actions at the National Park of Sharri constitute a violation of the three laws applicable such as; Law on National Park of “Sharri”, Law on Spatial Planning and Law on Nature Conservation.
The above-mentioned laws distinguish the National Park of Sharri as a spatial integrity with special values and natural rarities which among other things has scientific and cultural values and thus every activity which is in opposition to the development programme of conservation of National Park is prohibited.
The above-mentioned laws initially have been violated by the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, which had made a decision to approve the request of the Municipality of Prizren to adopt the Regulatory Plan of Prevallë/Prevala.
Acting Ombudsperson draws the attention that the failure to take immediate measures by the Authorities of Republic of Kosovo in order to improve the current situation at the National Park of Sharri in line with the laws applicable, will result in the complete destruction of country’s natural resources and the consequences shall be irreparable.
