Ombudsperson Institution promoted a compilation of laws on children’s rights

31/01/2008

In order to promote children’s rights, the Ombudsperson Institution promoted a compilation of international and domestic laws on children’s rights, which it handed out to individuals working in the field of children’s rights on 15 January 2008.
At the promotion event regarding the compilation of laws, Acting Ombudsperson Mr. Hilmi Jashari greeted the participants and pointed out that the main reason for issuing this compilation was to enable institutions and organisations as well as individuals dealing with this issue to have easier access to international conventions and main domestic laws with regard to children’s rights.
A convincing reason for such an initiative was the low level of protection of children’s rights in Kosovo and insufficient promotion and awareness with regard to these issues.
Acting Ombudsperson Mr. Jashari also believed that by publishing this compilation of laws, governmental institutions and non-governmental organizations, as well as the entire Kosovan society will be informed and will be able to increase their own awareness of children’s rights.
Representatives of governmental institutions and non-governmental organizations took part in the promotion event. Many of them stressed that they highly appreciated the work of the Institution and pointed out the necessity of co-operating more closely with this independent Institution for the protection of human rights in Kosovo.
The Acting Ombudsperson took the occasion to thank the Government of Norway for its significant support and for the assistance it had provided to the publication of the above-mentioned compilation of laws.
The compilation of laws on children’s rights was issued in Albanian and Serbian languages and distributed to governmental and non-governmental organizations free-of-charge.
