Acting Ombudsperson to host press briefing and release Special Report on municipalities’ failure to reconstruct houses destroyed in 1999

25/05/2007

Although tens of thousands of homes were damaged or destroyed during the fighting in 1998-99, today, almost eight years later, the owners of many of these houses are still waiting to return to their homes. This is despite the fact that various municipalities had promised to reconstruct those houses.
The owners of these homes—many of whom now find themselves with no place to live—are now asking themselves when the municipalities and the Government of Kosovo will begin to assume responsibility for such an important issue.
Acting Ombudsperson Mr. Hilmi Jashari will release this Special Report during a briefing for journalists at 9.30hrs on Monday, 28 May 2007 at the Main Offices of the Ombudsperson Institution in Kosovo, Agim Ramadani Street, Prishtinë/Priština.
