International Family Day is Marked
Prishtina, May 15, 2026 – Through a roundtable discussion, the Ombudsperson’s Institution in cooperation with SOS Children’s Villages Kosovo marked the International Family Day. Representatives of public institutions and other non-governmental organizations participated in the roundtable.
The Ombudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj said that this day reminds us that the family remains the main foundation of society and that every family should enjoy institutional support, economic security, and full dignity.
He said that it is the responsibility of institutions to work harder in taking preventive measures and thus ensure protection for children, women, the elderly and all vulnerable categories within the family.
The Ombudsperson highlighted some of the issues he has raised and investigated, in particular violence in schools, the weight of school bags, children with disabilities and their inclusion in the education system from preschool, etc.
The National Director of SOS Children’s Villages, Ms. Nezahat Salihu, emphasized that the organization has made many efforts to advocate for children without care. She added that they have worked hard to ensure that these children are independent and have social support after reaching adulthood.
