Newly appointed judges and prosecutors visited the Ombudsperson Institution

Prishtina, November 27, 2025 – The Ombudsperson and his associates hosted the newly appointed judges and prosecutors and discussed human rights, the justice system, and the work of the Ombudsperson’s Institution.
The Ombudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj, initially spoke about the history of the institution, which marks 25 years this month since its establishment, and emphasized that the Institution is increasingly strengthening its role in protecting and promoting human rights.
He said that the judiciary and the prosecution have a very important role in protecting rights and respecting the standard for a fair and impartial trial. The Ombudsperson said that he presents opinions in the capacity of a friend of the court (amicus curie), gives recommendations to public institutions for the implementation of obligations in the field of prohibition of discrimination and equality, refers cases to the Constitutional Court and to other mechanisms determined by special laws.
The judges and prosecutors had the opportunity to talk and were also interested in other areas that the Ombudsperson has in his mandate, and in particular issues related to the justice system.
The Ombudsperson congratulated them on their new duties, wishing them success in their work.
