
Ombudsperson participated in the International Forum on Women, Peace and Security
Pristina, June 3rd, 2025 – The Ombudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj participated in the International Forum on Women, Peace and Security in Pristina, organized under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Ms. Vjosa Osmani.
Mr. Qelaj was part of the panel on the topic “From Ashes to Championing Democracy: Kosovo’s Transformation Story”, where the challenges faced by women and children during wars were also discussed.
He said that the Ombudsperson’s Institution in its 25 years of existence has played a supervisory role in drafting legislation, in building policies and in supervising the respect of human rights.
The Ombudsperson emphasized that each of us must work to build a future where every victim and survivor will be treated with dignity, respect and with support to overcome the trauma experienced, such as victims of sexual violence during the war.
Mr. Qelaj continued by saying that everyone must work hard to prevent the past from repeating itself, by establishing guarantees of non-repetition in recognition of the sacrifice and suffering of a people who are building their secure and peaceful future.
The Ombudsperson said that the truth of Kosovo and its people is a success story of a country that has based its legal and constitutional system on the values of freedom, peace, equality, respect for fundamental human rights and freedoms, non-discrimination and gender equality.
