Roundtable discussion on human rights held with NGOs from the Peja region

Peja, February 19, 2025 – The next roundtable was organized in Peja, where civil society organizations from this region gathered to discuss the challenges and problems of communities related to human rights.

The roundtables aim to raise awareness and understanding of human rights issues on the ground from the perspectives of affected communities and to facilitate close cooperation between the Ombudsperson’s Institution and civil society organizations in this region.

In his address, the Ombudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj emphasized that the institution’s open approach to meeting citizens and civil society organizations provides opportunities to act and take measures regarding the issues arising from these roundtables.

NGOs from the Serbian, Bosniak and Albanian communities participated in this roundtable. During the roundtable, participants revealed a number of problems faced by citizens from the Peja region.

NGO representatives emphasized that one of the problems they encounter in their work is the slow judicial process regarding the return of occupied properties, environmental issues, children with diabetes and the need for increased care, the lack of personal documents mainly among citizens of the Serbian community and other social issues.

This roundtable was organized in cooperation with the non-governmental organization “ACDC”.
