The Ombudsperson discussed human rights with foreign students

Pristina, January 23 – The Ombudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj, hosted students of the “The European Master’s Degree in Human Rights and Democratization (EMA)” program based in Vienna, Austria, and Venice, Italy, who visit Kosovo every year for a study visit as part of their master’s program in the field of democratization and human rights.

The Ombudsperson explained to the students the establishment of the Institution, as well as his mandate and competencies, the activities and work of the Institution, the procedures for receiving complaints, and the promotion of human rights in the Republic of Kosovo.

Students, coming from different countries, also had the opportunity to hear about the general situation of human rights in Kosovo and the functioning of the Ombudsperson’s Institution.

In response to the students’ questions, Mr. Qelaj spoke about media freedom in the country, inter-ethnic relations, the legal infrastructure of the Republic of Kosovo, cooperation with local and international institutions, as well as Kosovo’s membership in international organizations.

This cooperation marks its 21st anniversary this year, with more than 2,500 students from around the world that have visited Kosovo, and respectively, meetings with the Ombudsperson have been recorded.
