Ombudsperson’s Statement concerning International Human Rights Day

10/12/2021

Prishtinë, 10 December 2021 – 73 years ago, the world made its first strives to enunciate in a single document all those rights which people believed were related to their very existence as human beings. Since 10 December 1948, when the Universal Declaration of Human Rights has been adopted at the United Nations General Assembly, humanity has never ceased to seek enforcement of those legal guarantees, by emphasizing the great role that protection and respect of fundamental human rights and freedoms plays for society and the democratic world.

The Covid- 19 pandemic was another “war” of its kind between the human being and society, where the world had to find the “golden mean” between preserving human health and respecting rights and fundamental freedoms of the human being, as values which, in an extraordinary situation, have challenged each other vastly.

Specifically, with regard to this theme, the Ombudsperson today has published the Report on the Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Human Rights in Kosovo, which puts the respect of human rights and fundamental freedoms at the center of all other efforts and interests of the state.

On this specific day the Ombudsperson would like to remind that protection of human rights is the real and most valuable cause for which must be struggled every day, for every person, without distinction.
